The park used to be the hunting retreat of the Mysore Maharajas,during the yester years. The wild animals that you may see in the Nagarhole Park are the sambar, chital, elephant, gaur, wild boar, the tiger, and also the leopard. The Nagarhole Park also has a vast variety of birds.

Located in the Hassan district some 38 kms far from the city centre, Belur is another heritage site known for its Hoysala Temple Complex. The centre of attraction here is the Chennakesava Temple, built by Hoysala Vishnuvardhana to commemorate and celebrate victory over the Cholas. The intricate sculptures and carvings of the temple are examplry of the fine craftsmanship of the Hoysala architecturures.


Halebid

Halebid,was once the Hoysala kingdom’s capital and is about 27 kms away from Hassan. It remains home to the finest Hoysaleswara Temple famous for its sculptural architecture. The walls motifs are the Hindu deities and sages,apart form various stylized animals and birds,that depict the life and culture of the Hoysala Kings.


Shravanabelagola

Shravanabelagola is actually a Jain pilgrimage centre and is famous for Asia's largest monolithic statue of the Lord Gomateswara. Its stands 58 ft tall, on top of the picturesque Vindhyagiri Hill.


World Heritage Site- Hampi, Hospet

The largest empire of the post-Mughal India, Vijayanagar is spread over three states- Maharashtra,Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.It’s invasion by the Mughals left behind ruins of the empire of Vijayanagar. The ruins of the capital of Vijayanagar; Hampi covers an area of atleast 26 sq kms and it echoes the grandeur and splendor of the erstwhile Vijayanagar Empire.

Badami is renowned for its sculptures that are located at the mouth of a rift in between two rocky hills. The attraction here that wonders the sight seers is the 18 armed Nataraja, striking 81 dance poses! Stunning indeed!
