The Golden Chariot :: History & Legend
The Golden Chariot Train is the outcome of the MOU signed between the The Ministry of Railways and the KSTDC- Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation. This royal train of southern India was flagged off at the Yeshwanthpur station of Bangalore city on the 10th of March, 2008.It completes two years of it's successful running, this year in March. Till date the Golden Chariot has embarked upon several royal voyages, all through the Karnataka state’s heritage sites along with The Bandipur National Park, Nagarhole and Goa.
The Golden Chariothas been, ever since its inception aligned with the other royal trains of India like the Palace on Wheels, Royal Rajasthan on Wheels as well as the Deccan Odyssey. The train derives its name from the famous Stone Chariot of The Hampi village, which is also a world heritage site.
While Karnataka is home to the world heritage sites, like Hampi, Badami and so many other world renowned destinations, Halebid, Shravanabelagola and last but not the least, the three circuits of Hospet-Belur. It was the effort of The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation to provide an opportunity to the tourists to explore these wonderful destinations on a royal train...in a royal way!
