Departure Dates: 2011 & 2012Splendor of the South - Golden Chariot’s new itinerary covers the various cities of Tamil Nadu such as Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur Mamallapuram, Kanchipuram, and Madurai.You will also experience the marvellous backwater cruise in Alleppey, and sightseeing in Kochi, popular as the Queen of the Arabian Sea!

Day 01: Bangalore-Chennai (Monday)
Leela Palace Bangalore Meeting Point at 1200 Hrs
The journey for the next one week with Golden Chariot begins with your arrival. Go Heritage India Journeys representative welcome you and transfer you to the Leela, Bangalore. Enjoy a delicious lunch and than you are introduced with the fellow travelers. A tour of Bangalore and than proceed to the Golden Chariot Train to board the train A Journey of LifetimeChennai Departure at: 22.00 Hrs
Day 02: Mamallapuram & Chennai (Tuesday)
Chennai Arrival: 0600 Hrs
You reach the Chennai Railway Station early in the morning. After breakfast, you leave for an excursion tour to Mamallapuram, which is also a world heritage site, in the south of Chennai well known for its shore temple. During the yester years, it used to be the sea port of the Kanchipuram Pallava rulers. Famous for its rock cut temples Mamallapuram’s main attractions are the temple Rathas, the Shore Temple, the Penance of Bhagirath and also the eight Mandapams.Enjoy Lunch at Mamallapuram, after which you will proceed for sightseeing in the Chennai city. The fourth largest metropolis of India, Chennai is also the gateway to South India and houses many tourist attractions. A visit to Saint Thomas Cathedral St. Mary’s Church, Kapaleeshwarar Temple (Shiva Temple) and Sri Parathasarathy Temple (Lord Krishna) and The National Art Gallery and Museum.
As you return back in the evening to the train Dinner is served on board

Day 03: Pondicherry (Wednesday)
Pondicherry Arrival: 08:00 Hrs
Pondicherry one of the Union Territory’s of India is in the north of the State of Tamil Nadu. Once a French colony, Pondicherry is therefore home to the French heritage. French is still widely spoken here and the roads have signboards too in French. The main attraction is the Auroville village designed with the peace concept in mind. The Aurobindo Ashram is a famous centre for yoga and meditation. Aurobindo, an Indian philosopher founded this Ashram in the early 1920's.Post dinner the train departs for Tiruchirapalli at 2200 Hrs
Day 04: Tiruchirapalli & Thanjavur (Thursday)
Early morning arrival at Tiruchirapalli
The Golden Chariot arrives in Tiruchirapalli early morning. The Rockfort temple is the city’s centre of attraction, built by the Nayaks of Madurai.It is located on a rock outcrop and is raised above the city’s plain. Three levels of the temple with the middle level, shrine dedicated to the Lord Shiva and the top dedicated to the Lord Ganesha temple which offers a magnificent view.You than move to Tanjore. The attraction is The Brihadeshwara temple, a world heritage site. Explore the Thanjuvar paintings in the museum of the Palace.
After dinner, the train departs for Madurai.
Day 05: Madurai (Friday)
Madurai Arrival: 0800 Hrs
Morning Golden Chariot Train arrives in Madurai. This city is a hub of pilgrimage and learning for centuries. Post breakfast, head to the famous Meenakshi temple of Madurai which is a masterpieces of the Dravidian architecture. You will be spell-bound to witness the eternal beauty of the Hall of a thousand pillars. The Thirumalai Nayak Palace & Thiruparangundram temples are also to be visited.Departure to Thiruvananthapuram
Day 06: Thiruvananthapuram and Poovar (Saturday)
Morning after breakfast, sightseeing in Thiruvananthapuram begins. The main attractions covered here are Padmanabhaswamy Temple (Only Hindus are permitted to enter this temple), Napier Museum, home to historical as well as attractive temple carts, Kathakali dancers life size figures, bronze ornaments and ivory carvings. You also visit the Sri Chitra Art Gallery famous for the painting collection of Mughal, Rajput and the Tanjore schoolsAfter this you move to Poovar Island for lunch. After lunch explore the scenic and serene beauty of the Poovar Island and explore the beaches. In the evening a Gala dinner with music and dance awaits you.
Day 07: Backwaters of Alleppey & Kochi (Sunday)
Alleppey Arrival: 0900 Hrs
Golden Chariot arrives in Alleppey at 9AM sharp! Post breakfast, you can enjoy a cruise through the backwaters of the Vembanad Lake. Backwater cruising on Vembanad Lake is a truly titillating experience!Through the backwaters of Kerala as you cruise you can explore and engage in the greeneries, the picturesque scenery and the paddy fields.
Your lunch is hosted at backwater resort in Kumarakom. Proceed to Kochi considered the Queen of the vast Arabian Sea. Kochi was once a fishing village and turned into a city during the British Rule. You get to explore the
St. Francis Church (closed on Sundays), Dutch Palace, the Jewish Synagogue (closed on Fridays & Saturdays) and the Chinese Fishing Nets. The evening you spend enjoying Kathkali Dance with dinner at the hotel.
Bangalore Departure: 2200 Hrs
Day 08: Bangalore (Monday)
Golden Chariot Itinerary concludes with your arrival at Bangalore in the morning. After breakfast you proceed back home with memories inspiring
