The Golden Chariot has been under pressure to get out of the red since it was flagged off four years ago. However, the loss-making company has given away more than 600 complimentary passes in this period. The Golden Chariot is control by the KSTDC. According to the policy for the train, the managing director has the power to issue five complimentary passes for every trip at his judgment. If the number exceeds five, it has to be ratified by the governing facilities board of the train, which includes the prime secretary for tourism.     The project director of Golden Chariot, M Srinivas, defended the passes. “I can’t remark on the figure of 286 because I was not part of the project in the first couple of years. It is natural in the hospitality industry to be a little generous with complimentary passes in the first couple of years to establish the brand.
